How Much Does a Trade Show Magician Cost? A Guide to Rates, Packages, and ROI
By Scott Tokar, founder of Corporate-Fx, Inc.
Hiring a trade show magician may cost less than you think. A local magician might charge around $2,000 per day. An experienced specialist’s all-inclusive package might run around $13,500 for three days. A large custom activation, such as a Guinness World Record attempt, could require $50,000 or more.
The right budget depends on your goals. You might want close-up magic that helps your staff start conversations, scheduled presentations that deliver your product message, or a custom illusion built around a major announcement.
Having worked in trade show magic since 1992, I recommend comparing the complete event cost and the work included before choosing a performer.

These are planning examples, rather than fixed rates or industry averages.
| Service level | Planning budget | What to look for |
|---|---|---|

A three-day package at $13,500 works out to $4,500 per show day. Confirm whether any proposal includes expenses before comparing it with a daily performance fee.
What Makes a Trade Show Specialist Worth the Investment?

A trade show magician’s job involves attracting attendees, communicating your message, and helping interested prospects connect with your team.
That requires preparation. The performer needs to understand your product, recognize your target audience, and work within the rhythm of a busy exhibit.
It can be worth bringing an experienced specialist across the country. House parties and street performances develop valuable skills, but you should also look for a demonstrated history of exhibit work. Request trade show footage and references from clients with goals similar to yours.
How Many Hours and Presentations Are Included?
A typical trade show day runs four to eight hours. An eight-hour booking generally includes breaks and a lunch hour.
For many booths, 10–12-minute presentations, twice an hour or every 45 minutes, work well. This schedule creates repeated opportunities to attract attendees while giving your staff time to conduct demonstrations and sales conversations.
Agree on the schedule beforehand, including how presentations will connect with your booth theater or product demos.
Is a shortened final day still charged as a full day?
Often, yes. A performer traveling to your event and staying in a hotel has generally committed that date to your show. If the exhibit closes at noon, travel logistics usually prevent another booking that day.
Cross-country travel can also consume a full working day in each direction. A three-day trade show may require five days on the performer’s calendar, before adding setup or rehearsals.
Ask how those commitments are reflected in the quote.
What Additional Costs Should You Check?
Some proposals list a performance fee and add expenses separately. Check for:
- Travel-day charges
- Setup and rehearsal fees
- Airfare, accommodations, transportation, and meals
- Prop shipping and baggage charges
- Sound systems, microphones, and performance tables
- Additional staffing or production equipment
Business-class airfare and upscale accommodations can increase the total considerably. Confirm travel arrangements, particularly if your company has specific travel guidelines.
Also establish what happens if show hours change or you request an evening appearance.

Should Scripting and Customization Be Included?
Pre-show messaging meetings, research, scripting, and planning should be included in the agreed scope of a professional trade show presentation.
Share your target audience, key benefits, qualifying questions, and desired next step. The magician can then develop material your sales team can use.
Discuss prop customization early. Branding an existing effect and building a new illusion require different amounts of work. Any substantial development cost should be identified before production begins.
Budget for Sound and AV Equipment
A presentation needs to be heard over the exhibit hall noise. Ask who supplies the sound system and whether venue services or additional AV rentals are necessary.
Corporate-Fx includes a personal sound system and magician’s table at no additional charge. Depending on venue rental rates and the equipment you would otherwise need, this could save approximately $1,000–$2,000.
Larger staging, lighting, screens, and other production requirements should be included in the planning discussion.

Why Corporate-Fx Uses All-Inclusive Package Pricing
An all-inclusive proposal gives your marketing team a clear number to budget and submit for approval.
Corporate-Fx package pricing covers the agreed presentation schedule, preparation, customization, travel, accommodations, and included performance equipment.
You know the investment before the event, without waiting for an expense invoice afterward. Additional requests are discussed and approved in advance.
How Do You Evaluate Trade Show Magic ROI?
Start with the outcomes your exhibit needs: qualified conversations, completed demos, meetings booked, and resulting sales opportunities.
For example, if a $13,500 activation generates 200 additional qualified leads, the activation cost is $67.50 per additional qualified lead. That is a planning scenario, not a promised result.
To calculate break-even, divide the activation cost by the gross profit you expect from a new customer. If each new customer contributes $4,500 in gross profit, three additional customers would cover a $13,500 investment.
Use your own close rates and margins. Count leads attributable to the activation rather than every contact your booth collects.

When Can a Custom Magic Activation Cost $50,000 or More?
Large experiential marketing productions require a customized, per-event proposal.
Making a CEO magically appear, presenting a Las Vegas-sized illusion with assistants, or developing a Guinness World Record attempt can involve fabrication, freight, rehearsals, technical crews, and substantial creative development.
A budget of $50,000 or more can be appropriate for developing and executing such an activation, depending on its scope.
Corporate-Fx has created a range of custom experiences:
- Corteva Agriscience: A Guinness World Record teleportation illusion connecting two exhibits through a coordinated live production.
- Infor: A customized presentation in which we cut a grill in half.
- Cisco: A theater-style corporate presentation integrating magic and PowerPoint content.
These examples show what is possible. The $50,000-plus figure is a planning example, rather than a stated price for any of these projects.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should we book?
Contact your preferred performer as soon as your dates are confirmed. Several months of lead time provides more flexibility for availability, messaging development, and custom production.
Can trade show magic work in a 10×10 booth?
Yes. Close-up magic and compact presentations can work in a 10×10 exhibit. Plan the performance position, audience placement, and staff handoff around your layout and show regulations.
Can you incorporate our branding or physical product?
Yes. Corporate-Fx can incorporate approved product benefits, logos, qualifying questions, and suitable physical products into the presentation. The approach depends on your message and the agreed customization.
Who handles lead capture?
Agree on this before the show. Your booth staff may scan badges while the magician presents, or attendees may complete a short QR form. Plan how the information will be captured and how interested prospects will reach your sales team.
